Advantages
of Homeschooling
In one series of IQ tests
given to children ages 2-4 years old, 95% of the children were found
to be highly creative - questioning minds and an ability for abstract
thinking. When the same children were tested again at age 7, only
5% still demonstrated high levels of creativity. In the ensuing
years they learned to conform, "If you want to get along, you
had better go along" is what they discovered. They had learned
to color between the lines, to sit in neat little rows, to do and
say what the other kids did and said, and to do as they were told.
Over time, they lost the wonderful fearless spontaneity of youth
and learned to suppress ideas and ideas that were unual or different.
When
you home educate, your child can learn at the pace that is
right for him or her and can achieve a complete understanding
before moving on. If they understand a concept easily, they
don't have to wait until the rest of the class "gets"
it.
Even if you have
a large family, your children are still getting much more
attention than in a classroom of 25 or more students. You
are also more able to adapt to the learning styles of your
children. If you have a kinetic learner, he can even learn
math facts while bouncing on a mini trampoline! |

Instill Your Family Beliefs
In a recent court
case, Feb. 2007, a federal judge in Boston has dismissed a suit
by two families who wanted to stop a Massachusetts town and its
public school system from teaching their children about gay marriage.
The complaint filed against
the town of Lexington, about 12 miles west of Boston, had said the
school had "begun a process of intentionally indoctrinating
very young children to affirm the notion that homosexuality is right
and normal in direct denigration of the plaintiffs' deeply held
faith.
The book that sparked
the case was "King & King" which tells the story of
a crown prince who rejects a bevy of beautiful princesses, rebuffing
each suitor until falling in love with a prince. The two marry,
sealing the union with a kiss, and live happily ever after.
This is just one of many
instances in which school districts can expose your children to
beliefs that go against your family beliefs. When educating our
children at home, we are able to teach our children about what happens
in our world today after they have a foundation of understanding
and have the maturity to understand.
These families found
out this story was being read to their children and have tried to
stop school districts from exposing children to concepts of this
controversial nature without first notifiying parents. How many
ideas are children being exposed to in public schools that parents
are never aware of?
